Sir Sa'adu Abubakar (Sultan) |
Muslims in the country have been directed to observe today as Eid-el-fitr to mark the end of the Ramadan and equivalent of Shawwal 1.
The Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, said in Sokoto yesterday that the order followed the sighting of the moon in Kaduna, Sokoto, Katsina, Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states among other parts of the country.
“The reports were duly verified and authenticated by the National Moon Sighting Committee. Consequent upon this, tomorrow Sunday, the 25th day of June, 2017 becomes the first day of Shawwal 1438 AH and is therefore declared the Sallah day for 2017 Eid-el-Fitr,” he said.
The Sultan called on Nigerians to continue to live in peace irrespective of religious or ethnic differences and prayed for the sustained peace and stability in the country and the world in general.
